We are seeking a Research Staff Assistant to join the Organic Geochemistry research group at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.  The job is full-time and will involve sample preparation and analysis using standard organic geochemical methods, training of laboratory visitors, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, ordering laboratory supplies and billing of laboratory users.  A major component of the job will be training of students, undergraduate research assistants and visiting scientists in laboratory methods for the isolation and purification of organic compounds from geologic samples.  Additional tasks will include maintenance and troubleshooting of an Accelerated Solvent Extractor, two gas chromatographs and other lab equipment and lab space, extracting, purifying and quantifying organic molecules in geologic samples, and general management of the lab environment such as ordering supplies and billing lab users.

College diploma and some lab experience is desired.  Prior experience with organic chemistry methods and instruments is a plus but on-the-job training will be provided.  Salary is in the mid 30s.  We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about climate change research, detail-oriented and neat to a fault, and gives 110% to everything they do.  This could be a great gap year job as well.  Candidates interested in applying for this position can view the full job description and application instructions here.
