Research Engineer at the Department of Geological Sciences – Ref. No. SU FV-3490-17
The Department of Geological Sciences is one of the larger departments at the Faculty of Natural Sciences with about 80 employees and 1,000 students per academic year. Our teaching is at Bachelor, Masters and postgraduate levels. Our main research areas are geochemistry, geology and marine geology. Within these areas we are well established within the focus areas; marine geophysics, paleoceanography, paleoclimate, geochemistry, biogeochemistry, petrology and tectonics.
Main responsibilities
As a research engineer at our department, you will be responsible for the analysis and maintenance of instruments in our laboratories. Your duties will also include ordering chemicals, safe handling hazardous waste, as well as ensuring compliance with regulations concerning health and safety. As a research engineer you will also assist in preparation for laboratory courses for students, field work and instrument and laboratory training. As an employee you will work closely with researchers and students.
Qualification requirements
To qualify for employment you need a PhD in Natural Science as well as experience and competence in instrument automation, chromatography (GC,(U)HPLC, IC) and related detectors, in particular mass spectrometry (i.e. GC-MS and HPLC-MS) as well as experience with field measurements. Additional meriths include experience with titration, liquid scintillation counters, automated field systems and isotope ratio analysis (such as IRMS). You need to be flexible about your work, work effectively, communicate well and work in a structured manner. We will put great emphasis on your personal qualities in this recruitment.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a six-month trial period. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. The department particularly welcomes male applicants since most of our research engineers are female.
